On 25th of July 2012, CEED Romania together with its partners – the Romanian-American Foundation and the Foundation for Partnership – celebrated the opening of the Rowmania Eco-tourism Centre, a social entrepreneurship established through the “Green Entrepreneurship” project. The Romanian Eco-tourism Agency and the Ivan Patzaichin Association, the founders of REC, were finalists in a very tight competition which enabled them to get free consultancy, business trainings and, of course, financing.
The Rowmania Eco-tourism Centre’s goal is to promote the main ideas underlined by the “Green Entrepreneurship” project: developing the eco-tourism activities through the responsible and durable exploitation of the Danube Delta, an UNESCO patrimony, unique in the entire Europe, by contributing to the conservation of the natural vegetation and fauna and growing the economical activities on the long term, at the level of the local community.
His Excellency, Mister Mark Gitenstein, the US Ambassador to Romania attended the opening ceremony and he expressed his support for the “Green Entrepreneurship “program, emphasizing the importance of these types of projects for preserving areas with remarkable cultural and natural heritage, respecting in the same time the local traditions.
